The one and only event which gathers the best actors, actresses, directors, animators, sound tracks producers as well as the latest in fashion trends will be once again presented on February 24, 2008 to award the best films and film achievements of the year 2007.

This will be the 80th Academy Awards ceremony which will take place at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California. Among various of the most outstanding categories to receive the Oscar statuette are: best picture, best director, best adapted screenplay, best actor and actress, best supporting actor and actress, best original screen play, best costume design, best song, best animated feature, best visual effects, and best foreign language film just to mention some.

Certainly there is a long list of excellent movies to choose from but there are some strong candidates which will certainly be selected on January 22nd nominations event and some of these are; leading the pack after receiving more than 18 critics’ prizes the Coen’s brothers Texan crime adventure “No Country for Old Men”, the elegant British drama “Atonement” is a sure election regardless the criticism it has arise; the 70’s thriller “Michel Clayton” was not a box office record breaker but its script and amazing performances have sufficed to keep the film among the top ones. Other films included in the race for the gold are: “There will be Blood”, “Into the Wild”; “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly” and “American Gangster”.

On the other hand, we have an extend variety of talent display among the names who are likely to achieve a golden statuette; on the male side there is: Daniel Day-Lewis for his astonishing performance in “ There will be Blood”; “Michael Clayton’s legal fixer” George Clooney. Once again a well-known name appears among the favourites and this time could be a positive surprise for Johnny Deep after his performance in Sweeney Todd. Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises), Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild), James McAvoy (Atonement) , and Denzel Washington (American Gangster).

The ladies’ list has deeply captured the attention of the critics but three women lead the nominees to be selected for their beyond-words performances; Julie Christie (Away from Her), Ellen Page (Juno), and Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose). Battle ling for an entry are also: Keyra Knightley (Atonement), Helena Bonham Carter (Sweeney Todd), Cate Blanche (Elizabeth: The Golden Age), Angelina Jolie ( A Mighty Heart), Laura Linney (The Savages) and Amy Adams (Enchanted).

Many have stated that 2007 has been a “virtuoso film year” an assertion which we shall soon see to be true once the Academy picks are announced just within a few days and the countdown to the Red Carpet event begins.
